About a million years ago, winds, sea currents and tides began to deposit sediments between three ancient islands – currently known as Morro do Mirante, do Forno and Pontal do Atalaia –, incorporating them into the mainland and thus forming the cape where the city of Arraial do cabo is located.

The climate of Arraial do Cabo is coastal tropical, with a lot of wind that stabilizes temperatures, the municipality practically does not know very high or very low temperatures.
Historically, the municipality has an absolute maximum of 34 °C and a minimum of 10 °C. In recent years, the absolute maximum was only 31.7 °C (the lowest in the entire state) and the minimum of 12.9 °C.
